Sermon - Are Christians called to serve?

Posted on June 22, 2025 by Pastor Myke

Discipleship moment with Jesus

So, we're having a moment with Jesus and his disciples, in Matthew 23:11 ,"But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant"

How we must serve?

The reason you see honor being given to a man is very simple, it's because a man that gets honored in the kingdom is the man that serves in the kingdom. If you are humble enough, you'll be the one serving in that department because you think that it's about who came first, who came last, who should be recognised, who should be seen, I want to be. See, if that's your attitude, you cannot serve here at the rock place. Everyone who serve must be humble.

Prayer:

Please bow your heads for one second, everybody. Just bow your heads and remember, have you ever in any point wanted to be the boss or the leader or the greatest amongst everyone? Ask God to forgive you for not knowing what you are asking for. So I'm about to show you. Tell him to help you understand what this is about so that you're not carried away by by the glamour you see on pastor being celebrated not knowing that if you are at if you don't have rest pastor has no rest. I want you to still talk to God and say God help me not misunderstand Anything that's going to be said in this place today, I need you to speak to him in Jesus name.

Sacrifice:

What do you think the cross is leading you to? Your death. Serving is dying. Oh, you think I want to come here every Sunday and preach and sweat like this and get so, you know, drained in sweat and I'm sitting there. I'm tired. I'm God, I don't want to do myself right now. He's not going to do that. No, church. It's called serving. So, this you think this is glorious. Well, if you see that, maybe I'm making it look good to you. It is work. See, some of you have to deal with your children. I have to give both you and your children and other people's children. No, I can't. No, pastor. I can't. I can't take that. Huh? And you want to serve him? He said they talk a lot, but they don't do nothing. Don't follow them. How do you know true worshippers of Jesus, true disciples, they are constantly doing, they give up everything, sacrifices to follow him wherever he leads them. Peter said, "If you are going to die, I'm dying with you." until Peter saw real death. And he changed his confession. No, I don't know him. Not me.

Call to action and life application:

When Jesus calls, what has been your excuse? You know, I I don't want to be known right now. I just want to, you know, sit and do my thing, you know. Um, you know, yeah, I'm still new. What? What? When he gave you breath this morning, why didn't you tell him we're still new? When he woke you up this morning, why didn't you tell him, "Lord, I am new. I can't serve you." When he saved you many years ago, why did you tell him then? God, I am new. I can't serve you. Y'all come take take take. You never give back. and you are wondering why what you have taken is not enough to change your life because life is in balance. You give and you take. Don't take without giving.

Go ask Ananias and Sapphira. Everybody brought theirs. They ate every bodies. Now it was time for their they took some and kept some away and God said no I will punish his obedience in this place. Give in the areas of serving God. every single person to say, you know what, pastor, my mind is made up. I'm done. If you truly love Jesus, would you not serve him? If you truly love him, you want to serve him. You want to take yourself and the reason why some of you can't serve, first of all, you're not born again. Secondly, you don't want to be called a hypocrite. I'd rather call you a hypocrite and call you one who is not of the kingdom. Hypocrites can change. They can repent. Oh pastor, I'm the one who goes to club on weekends and I come to church on Sunday. You can be forgiven. Your life can be transformed. But what God will not forgive is the constant excuses. But I'm too busy to serve you. Oh, yeah. People see that I'm too busy to serve God.

God spoke to us this year says this is the year of the Lord and in this year I want to give God back everything. All the years, it's been my year of breakthrough, my year of eagle flight, my year of financial prosperity, my year of double portion, my year of plenty plenty everything else but this year I say God let's return it back to you this year is the year of the Lord want to give back to God want to give him our lives give him our time our talents and resources es when we give these things back to him.

You got to do something else that you can't come and serve or it has to be about something else. But God is calling you today, calling you from a heart today, a hard place today that you must serve him. Come out of yourselves. Stop making it all about you and choose to serve him. Every time you hear the word, you cry and then you go back home and you remain the same. God is saying, Ah, you don't need to cry today. Just make up in your mind, I want to serve you God.
